Composite Software, Inc., the virtual data integration company, today announced record numbers of enterprises are buying and deploying its award-winning Composite Information Server™ and related technology.

Since its inception, Composite has experienced more than 100 percent annual growth as new customers extended their virtualization from servers and storage to data, and as existing customers expanded their data virtualization usage across multiple business intelligence, master data management (MDM) and service-oriented architecture (SOA) applications.
This increased adoption is similar to findings reported by Stamford, Conn.-based industry analyst firm, Gartner, in several recent publications, including the Hype Cycle for Business Intelligence and Performance Management, 2008 (July 22, 2008), the Hype Cycle for Data Integration, 2008 (July 7, 2008), and the Survey on Data Integration Practices Shows Move Toward Strategic Initiatives (June 4, 2008).
"Today"s tough economic times demand new approaches like ours," says Composite"s CEO Jim Green. "It's gratifying that, in our opinion, Gartner analysts, like our innovative customers, are recognizing the value of practical and proven solutions that deliver faster time to solution, lower development and maintenance costs, and help overcome existing IT complexity."
Complementing its virtual data integration solutions, Composite introduced in June the Composite Discovery, an appliance that combines enterprise search with federated data query to enable business analysts and analytical professionals to more easily discover and analyze enterprise data across multiple data sources and geographies for the industry’s quickest path from business question to answer.
Gartner Hype Cycles
According to its Hype Cycle for Data Management, Gartner prepares Hype Cycles to "help companies understand the relative maturity of technologies and best practices, the benefits of adopting them and the key factors behind their successful deployment." Gartner VP Distinguished Analyst Ted Friedman sums up the business impact of Data Federation/EII as adding value "as part of the infrastructure for data integration. Most of these opportunities involve augmenting the physically integrated data structures (for example, extending data warehouses and data marts with real-time access to operational data) and providing consistent service-oriented approaches for applications and business services to access data."
In the Hype Cycle for Business Intelligence and Performance Management, Research VP Kurt Schlegel and VP Distinguished Analyst Bill Hostmann explain that the business impact of Data Discovery will "…help drive much broader adoption than traditional BI tools, and will encourage more users to analyze their data."
Gartner Survey Findings Summary
For his June 4 survey, Friedman interviewed more than 200 employees at mid- to large-sized organizations (defined as having a minimum of 500 employees). Among the survey’s key recommendations:

Composite Recommendation Tool Helps Enterprises
To help enterprises determine where data federation fits in their information architectures, Composite Software designed its Data Integration Strategy Recommendation Tool to provide a simple 80/20 type decision-making tool to reveal quickly, yet accurately, the right DI strategy for each new development project.
